This Commemorative was struck in 2004 in honor of the 125th anniversary of Thomas Edison's inventing of the light bulb in 1879. 

Thomas Alva Edison was dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park" Edison was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory.

Thomas Edison was one of the most prolific inventors in history, holding some 1,093 U.S. patents in his name, as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France and Germany. In later years he built a winter home in Ft. Myers Florida - next door to his friend Henry Ford.
